How to Make People Angry

How do you make someone angry? Love them - not just friendly, join-hands-around-the-campfire feel-good love, but the kind of love that C. S. Lewis once wrote could be confused with ferocity.
The person who is really in revolt is the optimist, who generally lives and dies in a desperate and suicidal effort to persuade all the other people how good they are. It has been proved a hundred times over that if you really wish to enrage people and make them angry, even unto death, the right way to do it is to tell them that they are all the sons of God.
- G. K. Chesterton, The Defendant (1901), "Introduction"

Christian love is the kind that leads other people to complain, to tell us to butt out of their business. How dare we love atheists and want them to find God? How dare we love your unborn baby and want to prevent you from killing it? How dare we love everyone enough to want to share the Church that is One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic?

Why can't we just accept everything? Why can't we accept that its your body - not a loaner from God? Why can't we accept that all religions are essentially the same?

Because we love. We are called to really love, even if we are hated, even unto death. Jesus warned us that "you will be hated by all because of my name" (Matt 10:22).

Thanks Joe. Now I feel a little better for ticking off my atheist friend.

Feeling the love ain't easy sometimes. We all need to expend -- and receive -- a little tough love though, don't we?
